In one of our most distinctive projects to date, GETAIL DESIGN was commissioned by E-Motion and LPSIMU to engineer a custom extension for a Formula 1 showcar. But this was no ordinary vehicle. Built upon a chassis modeled after the FIA Formula 1 2022 regulations, the simulator was conceived not only as an aesthetic replica but also as a high-immersion, sensory-accurate racing experience, equipped with a 3-inch D-BOX Gen 3 motion system.
To fully realize this ambition, we were tasked with designing and producing a tailor-made extension, one that could mirror the exact sensations of a Formula 1 cockpit with precision and durability.
The resulting component was a 96 cm long, 3 cm diameter shaft with both 70mm and Simucube mounting patterns, embodying the same commitment to excellence that defines all GETAIL DESIGN products. Yet, the challenge lay in both its scale and its necessity for uncompromising rigidity. A traditional approach would have proven insufficient.
Thus, we engineered a modular design divided into three core sections: two signature heads, sculpted in homage to our iconic G1 aesthetic and a precision-machined central shaft. The heads are affixed to the shaft via two screws and a linear parallel key, ensuring virtually zero tolerance and optimal structural integrity.
This modularity was not a mere convenience, it was a necessity. To maintain performance and avoid undue strain on the direct drive motor, the extension required reinforcement via two bespoke support brackets. The most critical of these was located near the quick release, stabilizing rotational forces at the far end.
Each support bracket was custom-engineered and fitted with a self-aligning SKF spherical bearing. This allowed the shaft to rotate with seamless precision, ensuring both fluidity and stability even under simulated racing loads.
The support structures themselves were affixed to the monocoque via custom-fabricated arms that incorporated a linear rail system, allowing for height adjustability and precise calibration.
As with all our creations, this bespoke extension did not compromise on visual elegance. The extension was anodized in a deep black finish, a subtle yet powerful expression of performance and design integrity. In contrast, the support brackets were finished in gold, an intentional nod to the exclusivity and prestige of the project.
This exceptional F1 showcar was publicly unveiled at the Mondial de l'Auto 2024 in Paris, followed by an appearance at the Salon Epoqu'Auto 2024. Today, this engineering marvel can be seen in person at the E-Motion Paris Simulator Center, located in the heart of Paris, a true destination for enthusiasts seeking authenticity and excellence.
